Isi Artikel | The House of Representatives is slated to begin deliberations to change the law on the legislative institution today, which is mainly aimed at adding a deputy speaker seat for the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P). The House's Legislative Body (Baleg) will be in charge of the deliberations aimed at including stipulations to add an additional speaker seat for the House, as well as the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR), both of which would be granted to the ruling PDI-P. The amendment has been agreed by the majority of political parties in the House and is part of a deal in exchange for support to return controversial Golkar chair Setya Novanto as House speaker. Baleg chair Firman Subagyo told The Jakarta Post that today's session was expected to hear the PDI-P's proposal for draft stipulations to include in the existing law, which was issued in 2014. "But we are expecting input from more parties as some have requests of their own for the necessary changes," Firman said on Wednesday. He cited the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) as an example, which has called for revisions to the leadership posts of all internal House bodies, including its 11 commissions. "The fate of the deliberations will be thus determined by how many changes the parties eventually propose," the Golkar politician noted.(jun) |
